The company was formed in Glasgow,
in 1918 by John Scobie & John Junor.
Initially, the sole trade was in
Herbs and Spices.
During the 1950's, the
business was bought by John Bryce
and John Wicklow. They were
followed in the 60's by second
generations of both families.
The 70's
saw the purchase of 2 further
seasoning manufacturers, and a first
venture into elastic meat netting.
In the 80's
SCOTnet was
launched, winning the Queens Award
for Export along the way. We
export to over 50 countries, and are
now one of the worlds largest
producers.
The 1990's
saw the retirement of Iain Bryce,
and the joining of a 3rd generation
of Wicklows.
1998
saw the purchase of Zip-net, Inc.
one of the largest US meat netting
producers. Further information about
this operation can be found at
www.zip-net.com
At the turn of the century,
the Group continued expanding with
an acquisition of Dutch netting
producer Anka.
2002
we set up the only on line site for
butchers to buy their supplies. This
has been a great success with double
digit growth every year. You can see
the site at
www.scobiesdirect.com
2003
we entered into a joint venture
technology swap gaining the
equipment and experience to
establish a thermoforming plant for
bone protection.
2004
we embrace the latest information
technology into our operational
business models, launching our
on-line account access, allowing the
larger customers to place and track
their orders 24/7.
2006
we expanded into new premises at 1
Singer Road, East Kilbride, allowing
us to consolidate 3 sites into one.
87,000 square feet on an 8 acre site
gave us the headroom to cope with
the growth we were experiencing.
2007
we established a presence in
southern Ireland, with a base near
Dublin. This gave us a great footing
to launch all of our products
directly into the Irish market.
2008
saw the commissioning of a brand
new blending facility for herbs and
spices in East Kilbride. With a
capacity of 1500mt this gave us a
manufacturing capability in house.
In 2009
the Group acquired an Austrian meat
netting business. Consolidation of
the Dutch and now Austrian meat
netting production in East Kilbride
makes that site one of the largest
and most competitive in the world.
