The company was formed in Glasgow,
in 1918 by John Scobie & John Junor. Initially, the sole trade was in Herbs
and Spices.
During the 1950's,
the business was bought by John Bryce and John Wicklow. They were followed
in the 60's by second generations of both families.
The 70's
saw the purchase of 2
further seasoning manufacturers, and a first venture into Elastic meat
Netting.
In the 80's
SCOTnet was launched, winning the Queens Award for Export
along the way. We export to over 50 countries, and are now
one of the worlds largest producers.
The 1990's saw the retirement of
Iain Bryce, and the joining of a 3rd generation of Wicklows. It also sees
S&J as one of the UK largest privately owned companies in its sector, with
branches in Scotland, Ireland and the USA, specialising in supplying the
food industry with the finest ingredients, the most innovative packaging and
the most dependable machinery available throughout the world!
At the turn of the century, the Group continues
to expand with a manufacturing presence in East Kilbride, Scotland,
Pennsylvania, USA and Melbourne, Australia. Strong partnerships are in
place with some of the world’s most innovative and reliable food industry
suppliers. We are embracing the latest information technology offerings
into our operational business models, one example being our successful sales channel www.scobiesdirect.com, an internet purchasing web site aimed primarily at the retail butcher,
and our on-line account access,
allowing the larger customers to
place and track their orders 24/7.
Our innovation, attention to detail
and consistent execution of our customers’ requirements are complemented by
the company tag line - “Adding Value to Food”, which captures the mission
of the Scobie and Junor group. A major part of our success is built on
providing our customers with a level of service and a range of quality
assured products that is second to none.
